ECZEMA
Also known as atopic dermatitis, eczema is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that presents as itchy irritated skin.
The Cause
Eczema is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Patients with eczema have difficulty retaining moisture in their skin making their skin barrier weak and more susceptible to irritation from environmental triggers. Some environmental triggers include heat, perfumes, chemicals, detergents, soaps, nickel, smoke, and latex. In addition, allergy to foods such as eggs, milk, or peanut can trigger susceptible individuals.
