Hydroquinone 4% is a skin lightening agent that decreases pigment production.

Tretinoin 0.025% is a retinoid that normalizes pigment irregularities, and speeds up skin turnover - increasing the rate of skin lightening.

Hydrocortisone 1% is a topical steroid that helps to off-set the inflammation and irritation caused by hydroquinone and tretinoin, and decreases pigmentation by impeding melanocyte metabolism.

If hydroquinone is used consecutively for an excessive amount of time it can cause ochronosis (brown-black pigmentation). To prevent this usage is limited to once daily, and a one month break is recommended after two months of usage.

*For this reason we recommend also using the Brightening Cream in Month 3 to maintain the results you see with the Dark Spot Cream, and to continue to improve hyperpigmentation.

Some may experience lessened bleeding during periods. Other side effects include headaches, sinus or nasal symptoms, abdominal pain, muscular pain, joint aches, muscle cramps, fatigue, allergic skin reactions, vomiting, dizziness, or blood clots including blood clots in the lungs and eyes. Blood clots are at a higher risk in those using hormonal contraceptives in conjunction with oral tranexamic acid - for this reason it is not recommended to use hormonal therapy while taking these pills.
